Canada's Blue Jays Claim Fall Classic Showdown Against Los Angeles Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

Springer was instrumental for the Houston Astros claiming the championship in the 2017 season.

Toronto's Blue Jays reached their maiden Fall Classic following the 1993 season by beating the Seattle Mariners in the final game seven of the American League Championship Series.

Trailing three runs to one, the star outfielder smashed a three-run home run in the seventh frame, leading the Toronto squad in Major League Baseball to a 4-3 series triumph in the best-of-seven series. They will now face the Los Angeles Dodgers, who are the reigning title, in the anticipated World Series.

"I'm just so happy for our team, the city, the nation," Springer stated, an integral part of the Houston Astros team that won the 2017 championship. "This is such an incredible feeling."

The veteran has now connected for twenty-three playoff homers, making him third on the list trailing only Ramirez (29) and Jose Altuve (twenty-seven).

"There's probably not another player in the world that I want up in that moment except for Springer with his October magic," remarked Blue Jays manager John Schneider.

Seattle's team, who had led the series 2-0 and 3-2, remain the sole team that has never reached in a championship series.

Manager Dan Wilson stated "without a doubt that it's going to sting" following his side's defeat at Toronto's Rogers Centre, but applauded their performance in the campaign.

"It's a special team. It's a shame that we had to come out on the wrong side of this one," he continued.

The Blue Jays won the title on each of their earlier trips in 1992 and 1993, and will host the Dodgers in the opener on the upcoming Friday.
