Micky van de Ven found the net twice as Tottenham prolonged their winning streak on the road in the Premier League and delivered Everton their initial loss at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Everton were undefeated in their last five matches at their recently opened stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock, having departed Goodison Park behind after more than a century at the conclusion of the previous campaign.

But Tottenham's leader the Dutchman struck twice from corners in the opening 45 minutes to put their impressive record at risk, and they were unable to mount a comeback before the midfielder - set up by ex-Everton forward Richarlison - headed home a third to put the game to bed.

Jake O'Brien believed he had equalized the tally a short while after Van de Ven's first goal, directing a bullet header past the Spurs keeper from an Everton corner.

Beto, in the meantime, failed to convert a handful of opportunities, while Vicario made a succession of fine stops to ensure Tottenham went five matches on the road without defeat in the English top flight.

But the video assistant referee intervened, instructing Craig Pawson to check the score on the screen and the referee decided that the winger and the attacker were in an illegal position and had interfered with the Spurs keeper.

The win elevates Thomas Frank's team into third place in the Premier League, a handful of points off north London rivals and table-toppers the Gunners.

Everton stay 14th and sit half a dozen points ahead of the relegation zone.

Tottenham analysis: Van de Ven fulfils duties at both ends of pitch

After a drab midweek performance in the Champions League against Monaco, where they mustered a mere two shots on target, the manager chose Randal Kolo Muani up front instead of former Toffees player Richarlison.

The summer signing was failed to influence the game before being substituted for Richarlison after 60 minutes on the field, but it turns out he wasn't needed in the end.

Centre-back Van de Ven transformed into an attacking force to be reckoned with.

Tottenham's opening strike came from a well-worked corner routine, with the midfielder directing the ball back across the face of goal for an free Van de Ven to score.

And Ven de Ven - stepping up as skipper in the Argentine's absence - added his next goal in added time as he rose above Jordan Pickford to head home.

The Dutchman was just as impressive in defensive duties, partnering effectively with Kevin Danso as the duo dealt superbly with the 34 crosses sent their way by the opposition.

Toffees breakdown: Everton lacking finishing touch

Everton's new home had been a happy hunting ground, but it seems the freshness may have worn off somewhat and supporters flocked to the gates after Sarr's final goal for Tottenham.

The end in Everton's unbeaten home run won't be a major worry for David Moyes, but their attacking woes are.

Beto and Thierno Barry - the Everton's pair of established centre-forwards - had scored just one league goal combined before Sunday's match.

And they were unable to add to that miserable record on a wet and gloomy evening on in Liverpool.

Beto's performance was epitomized when he chose to overhead kick a clear chance from near the goal, even with having space and opportunity to readjust for a more conventional attempt that would have challenged Vicario.

The substitute, as well, failed to influence the game after replacing the starter in the second half.

It was not for a lack of opportunity. The majority of the home side's attacks came through Grealish and Ndiaye, who tirelessly whipped threatening crosses into the Tottenham box.

The Toffees: The team head to the Stadium of Light in the top flight on early November at 8 PM.

Spurs: Spurs go to St James' Park on Wednesday, 29 October for their fourth-round Carabao Cup match against the Magpies.
